Dubai, UAE, 3 May 2021: In spirit of charity during the Holy Month of Ramadan, Dubai Autodrome and the Reach Campaign, with support from Emirates Red Crescent, have partnered to raise money to develop prevention and treatment for Onchocerciasis (River Blindness) and Lymphatic Filariasis (LF or Elephantiasis), two diseases that affect more than 1.5 billion of the world’s most impoverished people and cost developing economies billions of dollars every year.
Roll Racing DXB, which takes drag racing off the streets and into a safe, controlled environment, is one of the most popular track activities at Dubai Autodrome during Ramadan. On Thursday night (29 April) all entry funds for the event were donated exclusively to the Reach Campaign. A contribution box was also at the event for those guests who wanted to add more to the cause.
Applying the Reach Campaign motto, “Give 2 AED. Save 2 Eyes,” the sold-out Roll Racing DXB event should directly help 23,143 people struggling with River Blindness.
The Reach Campaign, a first-of-its-kind fundraising initiative, launched in the UAE in February 2020. For the first year of the campaign, fundraising was centred around River Blindness, with over 2.8 million AED raised during the Holy Month of Ramadan alone in 2020.
In 2021, The Reach Campaign added LF to the portfolio alongside River Blindness. The campaign will continue the work to educate the UAE public about both afflictions and invites them to join efforts to end these devastating neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
Dubai Autodrome General Manager Faisal Al Sahlawi said, “We are proud to support the courageous efforts of the Reach Campaign to eradicate River Blindness, LF and other neglected tropical diseases. We were fully booked for the Roll Racing event tonight and all of the revenue and donations will go directly to the Reach Campaign.”
