Emirates Schools Karting Championship: Senior RD2

ROUND TWO SENIOR ESKC TRIUMPH FOR VDR RACING
Dubai College wins ESKC class

Dubai, UAE, 10 December 2017:  VDR Racing, with drivers Marcus Lee Marker, Jordy Van Dort and Ethan Watt, secured their first win of the season on Sunday in the Emirates Schools Karting Championship (ESKC) Senior Round Two at Dubai Kartdrome.  Ibrahim Yaqub, Ethan Pearce and Roberto Pereira of Dubai College topped the ESKC category.

The Nomad class, for teams with students from different schools racing together, dominated the night, with the top three places on the overall race podium all filled by Nomad teams.  VDR Racing led the way, earning a comfortable victory on the night.

Defending champion Ghost Racing, with drivers Mateo Moussaoui, Sameer Mohideen and Samuel Garbutt, set the pace early on, taking pole position in qualifying with best lap time of 1:10.534, just 0.174 seconds clear of arch rivals VDR Racing.

The pole sitters couldn’t muster the same race pace they had in qualifying, and it was VDR Racing instead who demonstrated solid driving and precision pit strategy on the way to victory.  The team demolished the field and cruised across the finish line a full 45.527 seconds ahead of JESS Nomad Team, with Ghost Racing next in line to take third place.

The overall and class victory boosts VDR Racing into the Nomad championship lead with 64 points, just three points ahead of Ghost Racing on 61 points.  JESS Nomad Team currently holds third position with 58 points.

After struggling to fully adjust in round one, VDR Racing now appears to be a well-drilled team.  On the podium Marcus Lee Marker said, “It was a good race. Everything went smoothly.”

Despite a second-place finish in class, SISD Senior, with drivers Constantin Reisch, Paul Seefeld, Hakon Lees and Yannick Kappeler, has 60 points and still leads the championship in the ESKC class.  Just one point back, Dubai English Speaking College Team 6 is currently in second place with 59 points.  JESS Arabian Ranches is hanging on to third place with 52 points.
